NGM: the popularity of the SZÉP card continued to grow in the summer
The results of the year 2024 also confirm that the SZÉP card plays a prominent role in the financial toolbox of Hungarian families, supporting their carefree rest, while also strengthening the domestic tourism and hospitality industry through the growth of demand and the expansion of consumption – announced the Ministry of National Economy ( NGM) on Tuesday with MTI.
It was announced that in the first eight months of the year, the total value of SZÉP card top-ups exceeded HUF 294 billion, which represents a 12.6 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
During the summer, the total value of top-ups reached nearly HUF 100 billion, and the amount of spending exceeded HUF 133 billion.
They emphasized that in the summer of 2024, the total value of SZÉP card top-ups increased to almost HUF 100 billion, which exceeded the value of the previous year by 15 percent. In June, the amount of top-ups exceeded HUF 35 billion, which exceeded the same period of the previous year by 11.8 percent.
In July, the total value of uploads rose by 15.6 percent to almost HUF 33 billion compared to the same period last year, while in August it reached HUF 31 billion, which exceeded the same period in 2023 by 18.2 percent.
They pointed out that the popularity of the card is outstanding not only in terms of top-ups, but also in terms of use: in the summer of 2024, SZÉP card holders used more than HUF 133.3 billion, 8.5 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.
