Bear Burger: Brasov’s new culinary specialty
Romania has come up with a new culinary sensation: the Sub Tampa restaurant in Brasov, on the Cinca Hill, has introduced a bear burger that actually contains bear meat. The exclusive dish costs 200 Romanian lei, or about 16 thousand forints. Although the price is steep, interest in the specialty is high, and the possibility of obtaining a national trademark has already been raised.
The bear burger is a real specialty in Europe, as the use of bear meat is subject to strict regulations. According to the restaurant, only the meat of bears shot for trophy hunting or due to necessity is used. Last year, only the remains of five bears were used for this purpose, four of which came into the restaurant’s possession. This means that the dish is not only rare, but will also be available for a limited time, as supplies may run out within a few months.
The special texture and intense flavor of bear meat set it apart from other types of meat. The 450-gram burger is impressive not only in taste but also in size, and is often eaten with a glass of beer. According to the restaurant owners, the bear burger is already the “star” of the Sub Tampa menu, considered a symbol of culinary sophistication.
The success of the bear burger quickly made its way to the Romanian press. According to reports, the dish is described as a rare and unmissable experience. The restaurant’s managers are considering declaring the bear burger a national dish, but they stressed that they do not support the shooting of bears specifically for this purpose. The basis for the sustainability of the dish continues to be the meat of animals that have already been killed.
