Just Eat to provide 1.5m hot meals for the homeless this winter
Just Eat will reach the milestone of giving 1.5m hot meals to those in need as it brings back its Winter Meal Appeal.
The initiative, which first launched in 2020, has already provided one million hot meals to those facing hunger, loneliness and the threat of homelessness.
This year, the food delivery app will donate 5p from every order placed between 4 to 11 December, up to the value of £250,000.
All proceeds will go to Just Eat’s longstanding charity partners FoodCycle and Social Bite, which tackle food poverty and homelessness within local communities.
In addition to hot meals, the Winter Meal Appeal funds projects that aim to break the cycle of homeslessness through the provision of sheltered accommodation and training programmes to help those that have experienced homeslessness gain employment skills.
The funds have also enable the expansion of community kitchens in more towns and cities across the UK.
Just Eat UK and Ireland managing director Claire Pointon said: “At a time where many are coming together to celebrate the festive season with friends and family, there is still an urgent need to help those at risk of homelessness and hunger.
To celebrate the initiative, Just Eat has teamed up with broadcaster and FoodCycle ambassador Vicky Pattison who is calling on the nation to volunteer whatever time they can to local causes.
It comes as Just Eat data found that 85% of Brits are planning to give back to those in need this festive period by volunteering.
