The IT labor market has slowed down, recruitment is a challenge for companies
The IT sector has undergone one of the biggest changes in the labor market in the past few years. While there was still a particularly high demand for employees active in the IT field during the pandemic, this has now subsided significantly. Recruitment, however, still requires a significant investment of effort from HR professionals, because employee activity has also decreased – as revealed in the latest episode of the Profession.hu Backstage podcast.
The job market is characterized by a slowdown in the IT field: according to Profession.hu data, on the one hand, the number of job opportunities has decreased, but at the same time, the average number of applicants per advertisement has not increased significantly, so employee activity has also decreased in the field.
How can companies find a good IT colleague?
Finding, hiring and retaining good professionals remains a significant challenge for the IT recruitment field. Employers often make the mistake of making the list of expectations too long, even though some of the skills listed are not essential to the full performance of the job.
“Employers can significantly expand their candidate pool by considering the tasks involved in the job and the skills required to perform them. In doing so, they should only set truly essential expectations for candidates. This way, they can reach more job seekers with the open position and have a better chance of finding a colleague who fits well into the team. The same is true for experience requirements: if there is an applicant who fits in noticeably better with the community or even the company culture, but does not have all the required skills, companies should consider allowing a little more flexibility in this area, because it can pay off over time,”
explains Zsófia Varga, head of the technology search team at Profession Services.
