KSH: in June, consumer prices increased by 3.7 percent on average compared to the same month of the previous year
In June 2024, consumer prices were on average 3.7 percent higher than a year earlier. Compared to May, prices did not change on average, food prices fell by 0.3 percent, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Tuesday.
Compared to last June, food prices increased by 1.1 percent, including sugar by 27.4, buffet goods by 9.2, chocolate and cocoa by 9.1, fruit and vegetable juice by 8.7, restaurant meals by 8.1, that of pork rose by 7.8 percent and that of non-alcoholic soft drinks by 5.6 percent. Within the product group, the price of eggs decreased by 22.3 percent, flour by 19.2 percent, dairy products by 10.2 percent, dry pasta by 10.0 percent, bread by 8.2 percent, milk by 6.2 percent, and poultry meat by 5.5 percent. Services rose in price by 9.7 percent, including rent 13.1, personal care services 10.7, tolls, car rental, parking 10.5, vehicle repair and maintenance 10.1, home repair and maintenance 9.8 , sports and museum tickets by 8.2 percent, holiday services by 3.0 percent.
The price of alcoholic beverages and tobacco increased by 4.2 percent, including tobacco by 4.7 percent. The price of medicine and medicinal products increased by 6.1 percent, and that of personal care items by 2.1 percent. Clothing articles rose in price by 4.1 percent.
