K&H: Children’s Day is a good opportunity for financial education
Children’s Day can be a good opportunity to open the window of the financial world to the protagonists to support their future decisions, whether it is about saving money or a valuable and useful gift. At such times, it may be worth reviewing the children’s budget or thinking about donating to those in need.
Children’s Day can be seen as a festive event for the youngest, but it can also provide a good opportunity for things that cut into the pocket to be put on the agenda. Although we initially think of it only as an expense, a well-thought-out Children’s Day budget can actually contribute to the development of financial awareness and can become an investment in the future of children in the long run, said K&H, which prioritizes financial education, including ensuring that young people are in the know. conscious spending: not only money matters When choosing Children’s Day programs and gifts, it is worth considering cost-effectiveness and sustainability. There are many free or discounted programs available nationwide that can provide just as much of an experience as an expensive entertainment option. Awareness can also set a good example in the field of gifts: a joint visit to the zoo can be a more lasting memory than a quickly forgotten game. We can also go to a restaurant together, where children can order their favorite food, but a weekend spent in a hotel can also be an experience for them.
For example, parents can finance these expenses from their Szép card – as they did last year: according to K&H data, in the period immediately preceding Children’s Day, the financial institution’s customers spent more than 77 million forints. The most significant part of the amount, more than 60 percent, ended up in restaurants, and the share of hotels exceeded 15 percent. The remaining amount was spent last year on beauty care and food, among other things. The year before last, during the week associated with Children’s Day, Szép card spending at K&H reached 93 million forints, and restaurant visits still took the top spot, accounting for more than 59 percent of the total amount, while hotel hospitality accounted for over 20 percent. we must open the door to the world of money If we do choose a tangible gift, think about developmental toys, books, or tools that help children’s creativity and learning: these investments prove to be more valuable in the long run. Children’s Day is an excellent opportunity for parents to start the basics of financial education with their children. If the child receives pocket money, on Children’s Day we can give them the opportunity to choose a small gift themselves or contribute to the costs of a joint family program. This helps them understand the value of money and the responsibility of decision-making.
