This is how the Rakun Box Community prepares for Earth Day
This is the motto of Earth Day, which has been held since 1970, and this is also the view of the small team who, standing behind the Rakun Box Community, are trying to prevent the production of waste.
The organization only celebrated its 2nd anniversary in November last year, but its members have already disposed of nearly 40,000 disposable boxes – i.e. ~1,600 kg of trash – in the course of everyday life. The disposable box used for takeaway and delivery of food is the 3rd most common plastic waste found in the oceans, so their replacement is increasingly urgent.
The celebration of Earth Day is associated with the name of peace activist John McConnell, who became interested in protecting the environment when he became concerned about the harmful effects of plastic on the environment while studying a plastic manufacturing plant.
Unfortunately, McConnell was right. Most of the plastics manufactured in the 1970s are still around in exactly the same condition. In addition, since then, more than 8.3 billion tons of plastic have been produced in the world, and the amount produced has been higher every year than the previous one.
