It is important to show religious tourism sites, which is why the Peregrinus platform was launched
The Hungarian government considers it important to show the religious tourism sites of Székely Land and supports this with financial resources, which is why the Peregrinus.hu religious tourism platform will be launched here on Friday, one day before the Csíksomlyó farewell – the State Secretary for National Policy announced at a press conference in Csíkszereda on Friday.
Lőrinc Nacsa said at a press conference held at the Consulate General of Hungary in Csíkszereda: the built and spiritual heritage in the Carpathian Basin is important to the Hungarian government as Christians and Hungarians, so he believes it is worth showing it to tourists and pilgrims.
He believed that religious tourism sites like Csíksomlyó play an important role in the lives of Hungarians and can also provide a lot in spiritual terms.
He pointed out that the Hungarian government particularly supports religious tourism, and uniquely in the European Union, a separate government body is responsible for this.
He said that the Hungarians have a competitive advantage in that the Carpathian Basin not only has beautiful places, but also a community living there, such as the Franciscan monks in Csíksomlyó, while in Western Europe churches have been closed and converted into museums, discos, and mosques in recent times.
In contrast, in the Carpathian Basin, with the support of the Hungarian government, more than 3,000 churches have been renovated and more than 250 have been built in the past 15 years
– he said.
Lőrinc Nacsa explained that the Peregrinus project is outstanding from both a religious tourism and national policy perspective, as it presents the religious tourism treasures of Székelyföld, which are often “out of sight”, and it is not certain that tourists from Hungary know about them or find them.
“That’s why we’ve created a digital platform that brings these together, systems them, helps collect information, and helps everyone find the places they’re worth going to,”
he said.
