Magazine: In a state of uncertainty

Linda Varjú, project manager of StreatRight – a company that organises food trucks for office lunches – talked to our magazine about the state of play in the food truck scene.
Did the situation of food trucks improve during the pandemic-induced crisis, because of the permission to sell in public spaces?
– Food trucks’ situation relatively got better, but I am afraid that this improvement will only be temporary and sooner or later the permission will be revoked. Unfortunately during the pandemic, most people who need food think not of food trucks but home delivery first. My view is that for a while office lunches will remain the area where we can gain a bit of momentum, together with the few private and corporate events.
What characterises the Hungarian food truck scene at the moment?
– Budapest is still the main place for food trucks, but we also have partners in Győr, Debrecen, Zalaegerszeg, Szekszárd and Székesfehérvár. The number of food trucks is growing fast, especially because beer companies, restaurant chains and food makers treat food trucks as a special marketing tool. Consumer demand is also on the rise for this type of service. It is problematic that the relevant rules find it hard to regulate the food truck scene in a way that food trucks could thrive. //
