The development of reusable underwear was recognized
Nowadays, with the increasing proportion of the elderly and the strengthening of health awareness, the area of personal hygiene and incontinence management is receiving increasing attention. Those affected are looking for discreet, comfortable and sustainable solutions. It is important that the quality of life of those living with mild urinary incontinence is not impaired and that they can live their everyday lives with confidence. The innovative development that received prestigious recognition at the Inno d’Or – Innovation of the Year 2025 award ceremony may represent a new dimension for them.
This year, the Inno d’Or – Innovation of the Year competition, launched by Trade magazin, was held for the fifth time, in which value-creating achievements are rewarded year after year that provide a solution to a clearly defined consumer need, fit into a nameable trend, or are the results of a development inspired by an existing, defined need.
The winner of the Personal Hygiene category this year was MoliCare® washable, replaceable absorbent underwear, available in both women’s and men’s versions, which sets a new direction in modern incontinence management and intimate hygiene product development. The product’s special feature lies in its patented technology: the discreetly placed, disposable, replaceable pad is placed in a hidden pocket inside the reusable underwear. This design provides a higher level of protection and intimacy at the same time, as it offers the same appearance and comfort as traditional underwear.
The inner core of the pads turns liquid into a gel consistency, can block up to 30 teaspoons of urine, thus ensuring a dry and safe feeling. It also neutralizes unpleasant odors and can be worn for up to 12 hours – depending on the user’s individual condition and the amount of urine loss. The pads can be easily removed and replaced throughout the day, ensuring freshness and comfort.
Commitment to sustainability
The product is not only an innovative but also an environmentally friendly alternative to disposable incontinence products. Its use produces around 78% less plastic waste compared to traditional pads.
The black underwear can be hygienically washed at 60 °C and reused without losing its absorbency. Uniquely, the product can also be dried in a tumble dryer, which makes cleaning easier. Sustainability is also supported by the materials and certificates used. The vegan, silver chloride-free and other biocidal materials do not harm the intimate flora and do not burden the environment.
