Tesco battles discounters with paid-for loyalty card
Tesco becomes the first major British supermarket group to offer a subscription customer loyalty scheme. This serves as a weapon in its fight against German-owned discounters. No less than 19 million Clubcard subscribers will be able to upgrade to Clubcard Plus for GBP 7.99 a month, which in addition to giving loyalty points redeemable for money-off vouchers, will also offer a 10-percent discount for 2 in-store shopping trips of up to GBP 200 per month.
