A joint initiative of K&H and AKI: the agricultural CO2 calculator
On October 10, 2023, the K&H Group presented its gap-filling initiative created with the Institute of Agricultural Economics, the K&H agricultural CO2 calculator, which is available free of charge and can be used by any farm to calculate its emissions.

According to the K&H sustainability index, which gives an idea of the current sustainability practices of agricultural companies, the agricultural sector is informed about the EU’s carbon emission expectations: 90 percent of them have already heard about the objectives, and 72 percent are aware of their content. However, the vast majority do not quantify their own company’s carbon footprint. A CO2 calculator offers a solution for this, which performs calculations according to the scientific criteria developed and certified by AKI, thus supporting the awareness and sustainable management of businesses. The quantification of the data can also help ensure that the company’s products meet the needs of the age and the customers, as well as the own and supplier data provision obligations required for ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) reports,” emphasized Zoltán Demeter, head of the K&H Agricultural Business.
According to the National Meteorological Service (OMSZ), our country’s CO2 emissions decreased by 7 percent from 2021 to 2022
Compared to the base year of 1990, this represents a 37 percent decrease. Thus, our country’s commitment has become within reach, according to which we will achieve a 40 percent reduction by 2030. “Looking at the sectors, industry reduced its environmental load by 18 percent and agriculture by 12 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year. The direction is good, but there are still gaps. Our survey also points out that we are far from the agricultural sector operating in a sustainable manner. Barely every tenth (11%) company has a written sustainability strategy, and for now they deal with this topic on a case-by-case basis (39%),” Zoltán Demeter added.
