GKI expects a 2-2.5% economic growth in 2025
GKI Economic Research Zrt. forecasts a 2-2.5% GDP growth for 2025, driven by a recovery in external demand, the government’s economic policy measures and a rise in domestic consumption.

In the fourth quarter of 2024 Hungary’s gross domestic product (GDP) – both seasonally and calendar-adjusted – was 0.2% higher than in the same period of the previous year, while it grew by 0.5% compared with the previous quarter. This means that the economy has technically left the recession behind.
Strengthening economic confidence
Looking ahead to 2025, the prospects for the Hungarian economy’s sales opportunities on foreign markets are gradually improving, which can be a source of optimism. Published by the European Commission, the EU’s economic sentiment index rose in both January and February, reaching a 22-month high. The expectations of the Hungarian business sector are also getting better. GKI’s business confidence index was up 2 points in February 2024 compared to the previous month.
Government action for more dynamism
Hungary’s government is taking steps to stimulate the economy. The New Economic Policy Action Plan aims to improve the business environment, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. The programme includes export promotion and investment loan programmes, as well as measures to stimulate domestic demand. 2025 could be a turning point for the industry: after two years of decline, the sector may step on a growth path this year. //
